The Isle of Wight has several golf courses offering rounds in scenic settings. The island's varied terrain and coastal positions make for memorable golf, with sea views from many fairways.
Freshwater Bay Golf Club is the most dramatically situated, perched on the cliffs above Freshwater Bay with views to the Needles and across to Dorset. Founded in 1893, it is a challenging 18-hole course on chalk downland. Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club is one of the oldest clubs on the island, with an 18-hole heathland course set above the town.
Osborne Golf Club at East Cowes occupies the grounds of Queen Victoria's former estate, with woodland and parkland holes. The club is open to visitors and offers 9 holes. Ryde Golf Club has a 9-hole course with views across the Solent. Newport Golf Club and Cowes Golf Club offer additional options.
Westridge Golf Centre near Ryde has a driving range, 18-hole course and 9-hole par 3 course, making it a good option for families and beginners. Green fees across the island are generally lower than mainland courses of equivalent quality.
Golf tourism is a growing niche, with visiting players combining a round or two with the island's other attractions. Several courses offer visitor packages including accommodation. The mild climate means year-round play is possible, with courses rarely closed for frost.
