Ventnor Park is a terraced Victorian park set into the hillside above Ventnor town centre. The park was laid out in the late nineteenth century and takes full advantage of the steep topography, with paths winding between different levels, mature specimen trees, colourful flower beds, and seating areas with views over the town rooftops and out to sea. There is a bandstand that hosts occasional summer concerts and community events, a putting green, and a bowls club with an active membership. The park benefits from the Undercliff's sheltered microclimate, and subtropical plants including palms, agaves, and echiums thrive alongside more conventional park planting, giving the gardens a character that would be impossible further north. It is a well-used community space, popular with residents and visitors alike, and provides a welcome area of green in a town that is otherwise built closely into the cliff. The park hosts events during the summer months, including outdoor performances and seasonal celebrations. The combination of the hillside setting, the mature and varied planting, and the sea views makes Ventnor Park one of the more attractive small parks on the Isle of Wight. It is a good place to sit and absorb the particular character of Ventnor, which remains one of the most distinctive and individual towns on the island.
