The Isle of Wight has a thriving classic car and motor events scene. The island's quiet roads, scenic routes and vintage character make it a natural destination for classic vehicle enthusiasts.

The Isle of Wight Classic Car Extravaganza is one of the biggest events, held annually and attracting hundreds of classic vehicles from across the UK. Cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles of all eras are displayed, with entrants crossing the Solent on the car ferries.

The Isle of Wight International Scooter Rally has been running for decades and draws thousands of scooter riders, predominantly on Vespas and Lambrettas. The event combines riding, socialising and music, echoing the Mod culture of the 1960s. It typically takes place over a weekend in August.

Classic vehicle runs and rallies take place throughout the summer, often in aid of charity. The island's scenic routes, including the Military Road and the lanes of West Wight, provide attractive driving. Several classic car hire firms offer the chance to explore the island in a vintage vehicle.

The island has a connection to motor sport through its association with early aviation and engineering firms at Cowes. The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, while on the mainland, is close enough for a day trip. On the island, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway appeals to transport enthusiasts of all kinds.
