Yarmouth and the western Isle of Wight have a dining character that reflects the area's quieter, more rural atmosphere. The west Wight attracts walkers, sailors, and visitors who value landscape over amusements, and the restaurants and pubs here tend to be independent, characterful, and focused on good ingredients rather than high volume.

Yarmouth itself has a cluster of restaurants and cafes around the harbour and the castle. The George Hotel on the waterfront is one of the island's best-known dining spots, with a brasserie serving modern British food using island produce. The harbour-side setting, with views across to the Lymington River and the mainland beyond, adds to the experience. The town also has a good fish and chip shop, a bakery, several cafes, and the Bugle Hotel, which serves pub food and local ales in a traditional coaching inn setting.

Freshwater and Freshwater Bay have The Piano Cafe, which combines music and food in a converted church, and The Red Lion at Freshwater, a village pub serving well-cooked food. Totland Bay has The Waterfront, a cafe-restaurant on the seafront with views across to Hurst Castle and the mainland. The Highdown Inn at Totland is a proper country pub with a garden and a menu that changes with the seasons.

The western downs and Military Road corridor have The Sun Inn at Hulverstone, a traditional country pub with log fires and a beer garden with views across the western landscape. The Buddle Inn at Niton, on the south coast road, is a former smugglers' inn with thick stone walls and a menu that leans on local fish and traditional pub cooking.

The west Wight dining scene is seasonal, with many establishments reducing hours or closing entirely between November and March. In summer, booking ahead is advisable at the more popular restaurants, particularly at weekends and during events. The area does not have the concentration of restaurants that Cowes or Ventnor can offer, but the quality of the best establishments is high, and the settings are often spectacular.
