The Isle of Wight International Scooter Rally has been held on the August Bank Holiday weekend since the early 1980s, attracting thousands of scooter enthusiasts from across Britain and Europe. The event celebrates Vespa, Lambretta and modern automatic scooter culture, with the mod subculture providing the backdrop of music, fashion and attitude.

Ryde is the traditional base for the rally, with the esplanade and seafront filling with thousands of parked scooters on display. The sound of two-stroke engines fills the streets as riders cruise through the town and across the island. Organised rides typically take the scenic coastal routes, and the sight of hundreds of scooters streaming along the Military Road or through the downland lanes is one of the weekend's highlights.

The rally includes live music across several venues, with Northern Soul, ska, mod revival and 1960s R&B providing the soundtrack. There are custom scooter shows, parts and accessories stalls, film screenings, and a general celebration of scooter culture that draws heavily on the 1960s mod tradition. The Quadrophenia connection is strong, with the film's Isle of Wight associations adding to the event's cultural weight.

The rally is a major event for the island's economy, filling hotels, B&Bs and campsites across the Bank Holiday weekend. The atmosphere is generally good-natured, though the scale of the event can overwhelm the smaller towns. Non-scooterists should be aware that the Bank Holiday weekend is exceptionally busy on the ferries and roads.
