Bembridge Sailing Club
Historic Building
Bembridge Sailing Club is one of the oldest and most established sailing clubs on the south coast of England, with a history stretching back to the nineteenth century. The club occupies a prominent position on the harbour at Bembridge, at the eastern tip of the Isle of Wight, and has been at the centre of the village's sailing life for generations. The clubhouse is a characterful building with a terrace overlooking the harbour entrance and the Solent beyond, providing a fine vantage point for watching the racing. The club runs an active programme, with dinghy and keelboat classes competing regularly throughout the season, and has produced sailors who have gone on to compete at national and international level. Bembridge Harbour is a natural harbour, one of the few on the island, and its sheltered waters make it an excellent base for sailing. The club also hosts social events and has a bar and dining facilities available to members and visiting sailors. While the club is primarily a members' institution, the harbour area is public and provides a pleasant setting for watching boats come and go. Bembridge has a long maritime heritage, and the sailing club is a living, active part of that tradition.
